Sustainability

A Thriving, Self-Contained Ecosystem

Casa La Rad is more than a vineyard—it’s a living, breathing landscape of colors, textures, sounds, and fragrances, stretching across 800 hectares in the foothills of the Iberian Massif. Here, vines flourish as part of a balanced, biodiverse, and sustainable ecosystem, much like they did centuries ago. This harmony with nature isn’t just a philosophy—it’s the foundation of the exceptional fruit we harvest today.

Our Mission

At Casa La Rad, we are dedicated to crafting wines of exceptional quality and authentic character, guided by a deep respect for our land. Our commitment extends beyond winemaking—we are stewards of a pristine ecosystem, ensuring that every method we use sustains, rejuvenates, and enriches the natural vitality and biodiversity of our La Rioja estate.

Forward to the Past

Across even the most celebrated terroirs, grape aromas are fading, and vines are growing ever more vulnerable to disease—requiring stronger pesticides year after year. In response, forward-thinking European winegrowers like Casa La Rad are challenging conventions and rediscovering the ecological foundations of viticulture. This return to our roots embraces nature’s own solutions for enhancing terroir quality.

A thriving vineyard is more than just vines—it’s an entire ecosystem at work. At Casa La Rad, biodiversity is our greatest ally. Ladybugs, earwigs, lacewings, wasps, and arachnids form a natural defense, keeping harmful pests in check and reducing the need for intervention.

The heart of our estate is a first-growth indigenous woodland, a high-elevation sanctuary where mountain and Mediterranean flora intertwine. Here, holm oaks, Pyrenean oaks, strawberry trees, rockrose, rosemary, thyme, and lavender flourish, providing shelter for an abundance of wildlife. Red and roe deer, hares, wildcats, genets, and wild boar roam freely, while golden eagles, kestrels, and short-toed eagles soar overhead.

At Casa La Rad, sustainability goes beyond preserving nature—it’s about harmonizing with everything and everyone connected to this land. We cultivate our Arbequina olive grove on sun-drenched southern slopes using traditional methods, while cereal fields serve as natural buffers between vineyards and woodlands—an age-old practice that supports soil health and biodiversity.

By listening to the land, we let nature shape our choices, not the other way around. Just as we strive to help our vines speak the language of wine, we honor the legacy of those who came before us.

At Casa La Rad, returning to our roots isn’t a philosophy—it’s simply who we are.
