Soil composition:
Parcel 12 is part of the “Presas Bajas” area of our estate. It features limestone soil typical of the area, with ample rock deposits from the degradation of the C horizon minerals, in a shallow, very poor soil, giving special nuances to the grape.
Ferrous elements rich in this terroir combine with limestone, clay and generally rocky soil due to degradation of the bedrock matrix. The vineyard has vegetative ground cover.
Harvest:
First week of October
Vinification and aging:
Grape bunches were harvested by hand and selected in the vineyard. They were then transported to the winery in small-capacity trailers, de-stemmed and maverated with the skins (a traditional technique in Rioja). The must is bled after 24 hours.
Fermentation with selected yeasts in 50% new / 50% semi new 500-liter oak barrels at a temperature of 18ºC. This wine did not undergo malolactic fermentation.
The wine was then aged 8 to 10 months in semi-new 500-liter oak barrels to increase body and complexity.
