Jewel of the Rioja Biosphere

Once the summer hunting reserve of Logroño nobility, today the largest wine estate in the Rioja region, Bodegas Casa La Rad is dedicated to crafting distinctive estate-grown wines from old vines, cultivated within a unique, biodiverse ecosystem of woodlands, meadows, olive trees, and grapevines, at high elevations in the foothills of the Iberian Massif.

about

Ecodiversity, off the beaten path

Hidden away in the secluded Ocón Valley foothills, the Casa La Rad estate is the largest wine estate in La Rioja. Its 112 hectares of vineyard plantings cover only 14% of the total property.

The remaining land is home to first-growth woodlands (550 hectares) and complementary agriculture, creating conditions of biodiversity, environmental sustainability and vine health envied by the more volume-driven wineries of Rioja.

our terroir

Rocky soils, high elevations, old vines

About one-fourth of our vineyard parcels were planted fifty years ago, and more than 80% of our total vines have at least twenty years of age. All are planted at high elevations between 1,700 and 2,200 feet (515 to 675 meters) in a variety of soils, microclimates and exposures.
